\nIn this piece, the words in the background represent auditory hallucinations experienced by the artist. While the voices were known to be auditory hallucinations, they were also felt to be part of her reality, occupying the unique space of both what is and what is not. The hand reaching out beyond the hallucinations represents help from many sources : the hospital, family, friends, and fellow patients. As it becomes 3-dimensional and seems to reach out to the viewer, it stresses how such help can be powerful enough to supersede the hallucination\u2019s reality-warping effects.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
