Reflection
Oil on canvas
This piece is a dichromatic self-portrait in which the consciousness is split into two opposing figures facing one another. It is inspired by Marina Abramovic’s performance The Artist is Present, in which visitors were invited to sit in front of the artist. In this painting, it is the two sides of the mind that confront one another; as one breaks down in tears, the other looks on in passive concern. The viewer is positioned on the side of the broken mind, which brings the feeling of being trapped in such thought patterns, even when we can see the other side.
