Fugue I Eden Redman

Fugue I

Eden Redman

Oil painting on canvas

This piece seeks to provide an experiential understanding of dissociative states. Within a backdrop of pastel hospital scrubs, mask elements narrates self in its metamorphosis across time, contexts, and in response to trauma and treatment. Shriveled root vegetables scattered about the scene indicate a pervasive force that can permeate any and all aspects of consciousness. The masks house a variety of interweaving elements, depicting self as dependent on and constructed from one’s environment. Questioning the viewer, from what is your ‘self’ constructed?
