In July of 2020 at the age of 25, 6-months into a global pandemic, I was diagnosed with Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma of a salivary gland. The next 3 months were a whirlwind of innumerable biopsies and scans, culminating in an 18-hour facial surgery to carve out the cancerous tumor and nerve it encased. Haunted by stillness, depression, pain, PTSD, anxiety, loss, and future questions. This piece is an homage to the silent rage of the parts removed, dysthymic ghosts and the nature of beauty.
