This image shows a small portion of a mouse brain, where parts of the brain have been modified to glow under a microscope. Individual fibers, pictured as the cyan and magenta tendrils, send information from region to region in the brain. For each fiber there is a purpose. Billions of these fibers exist in the brain, so it can be hard to believe that any one fiber can make a difference. But by adding them to one another, these connections become greater than the sum of their parts and create something special.
