CONNECTIONS – Virtual Reality Experience

Immerse yourself in the minds of artists Marilène Oliver and aAron Munson with Tête à Tête and Where Are You?, two virtual reality artworks created from high resolution CT and MRI scans. These pieces reveal the beauty of neuroscientific imaging while exploring how technologies like machine learning and social media shape our brains and mental health. This event is included with admission to the Royal Alberta Museum.

NMHI Public Lecture – The Art and Science of Brain Rhythms

Scientists Clayton Dickson and Kyle Mathewson, neurologist Janette Mailo, and sound artist Gary James Joynes discussed how rhythms affect our mind and what they can tell us about how the brain works.

CONNECTIONS – Poetry Evening

Connections partnered with the UofA Days of Action Committee and the Sound Studies Institute for an evening of poetry around themes of mental health, neurological disorders, and wellness. Heather Ritz, a Community Social Worker with Wellness Supports, started with a presentation about Happiness Reflected, a multi year project which invites members of the UofA community to submit poems about happiness as a way to open up discussions about mental health. This was followed by readings of some of the Happiness Reflected poems by students and alumni submitted in 2025, and then an open session where guests were welcomed to share their poetry with the audience.

NMHI Public Lecture – The Art and Science of Addiction

Scientists Heather Morris and Anna Taylor, clinician scientist Monty Ghosh, artist Tamara Deedman, and lived/living experience advocate Shanell Twan offered a powerful and thought provoking look at addictions from diverse perspectives.

CONNECTIONS – Fibre Fun

On 19th April, CONNECTIONS fibre artists Richard Boulet and Maya Candler hosted a relaxed, collaborative afternoon of FIBRE FUN, sharing and creation at the Royal Alberta Museum.
