Eustress or Distress?

Did you know stress can be imaged? These two microscopy images, Eustress or Distress? and An Angle of Observation show the eye of a zebrafish larvae under threat.  Calcium, a crucial signaling molecule, mediates stress responses and communication within and between neuronal cells. It can be visualized using specific dyes. In the Eustress or Distress? calcium (red stain) rushes into the cells when the eye perceives a threat, triggering a “fight or flight” response and adaptation to stress. In An Angle of Observation, the green puncta represent channels that transport calcium, neatly arranged on the surface of cells in the zebrafish’s eye, ready to respond to stress.
