Balancing the Senses Helene Charette

Stained Glass

This stained glass work is representative of the brain’s responsibility for sensory equilibrium. The “right side” of the brain is being pushed by a fist. This illustrates the uncomfortable pressure of sensory experiences. On the “left side,” there are abstract representations of the eye (white, black pupiled bevel on the outside right) and the ear (pink shapes near center line). Bevels were used to impress the whimsical and dizzying character of sensation, where one feels like a bubble floating upwards, ungrounded.
