Isolation

Lisa Schwartz

sculpture made of wool, silk, wire and wood

Erosion of one’s mental state during isolation. Darkness and fear emerge through layers of wool placed on the flimsy skeletal frame. Manipulation, friction, creating a shell resembling a state of mental health in need of support. The hardened exterior, vulnerable and empty inside, stands alone. Sharing my art with family and friends brings empathy and healing, telling me I’m not alone while connecting with what is kept deep in my soul. The never-ending pandemic was the inspiration for this piece, as sadness and feeling isolated became the ‘new normal’.
