Philip Koning

I suffer from schizophrenia. I believe that I have had it most of my life. It gives me auditory hallucinations, as well as great deal of anxiety and stress. When I was diagnosed it felt like a punch in the stomach. I received shock treatments and medication, and I spent 12 weeks in the hospital. I have not been in hospital now for close to 25 years. In 2018, I received the Governor General Sovereign’s Medal for my volunteer work. I am currently in an ongoing partnership program with the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta to give lectures about my experience.
