This image is part of a collection of immunofluorescent images of calcium in the neural networks composing the eye of a two-day old zebrafish larvae exposed to acute stress. Calcium is a crucial molecule that mediates communication within and between neuronal cells. Calcium rushes into the cells when the eye perceives a threat, and it triggers a “fight or flight” response. My PhD project on acute stress is my inspiration.
