Van Gogh’s View of a Spinal Cord Lesion Site

This is an image of a rat spinal cord injury that was taken using a confocal microscope. The image was used to evaluate scar tissue (astrocytes) and inflammation (microglia and macrophages) following a traumatic injury. When we looked at it, especially form a distance, it appeared like an art painting much more than the result of a science project.
